Kim Clijsters wins the Sony Ericcson Open- Clijsters derrota a V.Williams en Miami

Kim Clijsters siguió su retorno triunfal, al vencer holgadamente a Venus Williams por 6-2, 6-1 para conquistar el Masters de Miami.Williams se vio en dificultades durante todo el encuentro y Clijsters liquidó el partido en apenas 58 minutos ante la sorpresa del público, que esperaba una final mucho más reñida. Clijsters, que también ganó el título en Key Biscayne en el 2005, se lleva $700,000. La semana próxima ascenderá al décimo puesto en el ránking, el más elevado de la ex número uno del mundo desde su regreso. Williams se conforma con $350,000.

Kim Clijsters defeated Venus Williams 6-2, 6-1 in just 58 minutes to win Sony Ericsson Open, her 37th career title!

Kim won 17 straight points during the match and ended the 15-game winning streak for Venus, who was going after a fourth Miami title. Venus, wearing bandaging on both legs, made 30 unforced errors and throwing in double faults at crucial stages to drop serve.

"She's a great competitor, a great athlete and one of the best that women's tennis has ever had," Kim said of Williams afterwards. "I knew I had to come out here and play well. My semifinal was such an exciting match and I tried to keep going from there and try not to lose that beat that I had. I was happy with the way I was able to keep playing throughout this whole match."

Kim will rise to top 10 on Monday's rankings, and that's the first time she'll be in top 10 since she returned to the Sony Ericsson Open WTA Tour last year.

“It took a lot of hard work to get back into shape and I have a few people to thank, including my fitness coach and husband,” Kim said during the on-court ceremony. “It feels really good to be back here, having won the title in 2005. It’s always nice to come back to a place you have done well before, and to such a beautiful stadium.”

Venus, who will rise to No. 4 in the world rankings on Monday, said: "Congratulations to Kim. What a great tournament. She played really well today. It wasn't my best day, but I'll be back next year."

Awards For Roger- Roger Federer recibe premios en Indian Wells

El No. 1 del mundo, Roger Federer, fue homenajeado la noche del domingo en el BNP Paribas Open de Indian Wells, donde recibió tres premios justo después de derrotar por 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1 al rumano Victor Hanescu.

El Director Ejecutivo y Presidente de ATP, Adam Helfant, presentó al tenista de 28 años quien fue galardonado en las categorías Jugador del Año 2009, Favorito de los Fans del Año presentado por RICOH, y el de Buen Comportamiento Deportivo Stefan Edberg.

“Quisiera agradecerle a todos los fans que votaron por mi", dijo Federer, quien recibe el premio de favorito del público por séptimo año consecutivo. "Ustedes son impresionantes".

Federer también agradeció que lo eligieran el deportista del año, algo que ya festejó en los cinco años anteriores. "Es difícil de creer", dijo durante la ceremonia.

El estadounidense John Isner también recibió su trofeo como el La Sorpresa del Año, en una temporada 2009 donde subió desde el puesto 145 hasta al No. 34 del Ránking ATP South African Airways ATP Rankings.

World No. 1 Roger Federer was honored on court Sunday evening at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, receiving three ATP Awards following a 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1 win over Romanian Victor Hanescu in the second round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament.

ATP Executive Chairman and President Adam Helfant presented the 28-year-old Swiss with trophies for 2009 Player of the Year, ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favorite Player of the Year presented by RICOH, and the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.

“I’d like to thank the fans for voting for me,” Federer said to the crowd after receiving the Fan Favorite Award for a seventh straight year. “You guys are amazing”.

A video tribute celebrating Federer’s career followed the presentation.

“Receiving those awards is always a nice thing,” he said at the post-match press conference. “Those are things that got voted for by other people, especially fellow players or fans, it's something that's very touching. Then on top of the that, the video was nice, sitting there, sharing the moment with the fans, watching it, as well at the same time. It's emotional.”

American John Isner also received his trophy Sunday as the Most Improved Player of the Year, following a 2009 season that saw him climb from No. 145 to a year-end best No. 34 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings.

Jelena Jankovic wins in Indian Wells- Jelena Jankovic gana su primer título del año

La ex número uno del mundo Jelena Jankovic ganó el domingo el título del torneo femenino de Indian Wells (estado de California), tras vencer en la final a la danesa Caroline Wozniacki por 6-2 y 6-4.

La serbia Jankovic, novena del ránking de la WTA y sexta preclasificada en Indian Wells, se impuso fácilmente a Wozniacki, cuarta del escalafón y segunda sembrada, para ganar el duodécimo título de su carrera y el primero desde el torneo de Cincinnati en agosto del año pasado.

"Han sido dos buenas semanas para mí realmente", dijo Jankovic, quien agregó que estaba "feliz de ganar este título."

"Yo quise ser agresiva, pero a la vez ser paciente pues supe esperar mis oportunidades", explicó Jankovic sobre su estrategia para vencer a Wozniacki.

Wozniacki, de 19 años, señaló por su parte que cometió "varios errores, sobre todo en algunos de mis primeros servicios".

Former top-ranked player Jelena Jankovic is back in good form as evidenced by her title win in Indian Wells on Sunday. The Serb defeated Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to earn her 12th career title.

“It’s been a great two weeks for me, really amazing. I’m so happy and so thrilled that I was able to win this title,” Jankovic said.

“I went out there knowing my game plan. I wanted to be really aggressive, but at the same time patient and not really go for too much or go over the limit with some balls,” she added.

Wozniacki said that she had too many errors during important points that led to her defeat.

“I couldn’t really get to play the game that I wanted to play. I wanted to get her moving a little bit more. I wanted to stay on the baseline a little bit more,” she said.

Despite the loss, Wozniacki will rise in the women’s rankings on Monday, taking over the number two spot held by Dinara Safina.

Ivan Ljubicic wins in Indian Wells- Ljubicic gana en California

El croata Iván Ljubicic se ha alzado este domingo en Indian Wells con el primer Masters 1000 de su carrera al derrotar en la final al estadounidense Andy Roddick por 7-6(3) y 7-6(5), en dos horas y siete minutos.

Ljubicic ha conseguido 21 puntos de saque directo por 12 de su rival. En el duelo de "cañoneros", fue el estadounidense quien avisó por partida doble en el primer set.

Ljubicic, rey del ace en Indian Wells, con 66 puntos de saque directo hasta este duelo, respondió en el momento clave y en la muerte súbita se adelantó por 3-0, suficiente para hacerse con la primera manga poco después.

La segunda manga continuó por los mismos derroteros. Ambos tenistas mantuvieron su excelsa eficacia en el saque y de nuevo Roddick fue el primero en amenazar. Con 4-4 dispuso de dos bolas de break, pero tampoco consiguió su propósito y de nuevo todo se definiría en una nueva muerte súbita.

Ahí los errores no forzados del estadounidense le pasaron factura y Ljubicic, con el obús a punto, sentenció.

Ambos tenistas se habían enfrentado diez veces hasta este domingo. Roddick se llevó la victoria en siete ocasiones.

El croata se lleva 605.500 dólares y mil puntos en el ránking de la ATP. Roddick, por su parte, gana 295.500 dólares y 600 puntos. Para Ljubicic, de 31 años, ésta era su cuarta final en un Masters 1000 y nunca había ganado uno de esos títulos hasta este domingo.

Ivan Ljubicic beat American Andy Roddick 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5) to win the Indian Wells men's title, the first elite Masters 1000 triumph of the Croatian veteran's career. Ljubicic, who celebrated his 31st birthday on Friday, became the oldest first-time winner of a Masters event.

“Looking at my career in general, I did feel like I was missing it,” said Ljubicic on Sunday, who reached a career-high number three in the world in 2006. “It's really a fantastic feeling to finally have it. It gives something special to your career.”

“It was really a mind game,” Ljubicic said. “When you have two big serves, not a lot of rallies happening, it's a very mental match. I was, I think, fortunate enough to be more relaxed by the end of the match.”

Ljubicic claimed his 10th career title and his first since Lyon last October, and in doing so insured he will climb from his current 26th in the world into the top 15. The last time he was ranked in the top 20 was in January 2008.

Roddick was gracious in defeat, telling the crowd who had backed him that the game was lucky to have Ljubicic around.

“I don't think we know each other that well personally, but I can certainly respect someone who has put in the years and has won close to 400 matches in his career,” Roddick said.

“It seems like he always plays the game the right way.”

Pavlyuchenkova wins her 1st title- A Pavlyuchenkova gana en Monterrey

La rusa Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova se recuperó de un mal primer set para vencer 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 a la eslovaca Daniela Hantuchova, ganar el Abierto de tenis de Monterrey y de esa forma conseguir su primer título de la WTA.

Paylyuchenkova se vio superada en el arranque ante una figura de más experiencia, que necesitó menos de 38 minutos para marcar diferencia a favor con su servicio.

"Estoy muy contenta con mi resultado, es el primer título de mi carrera. El próximo año espero regresar a Monterrey, que es un gran torneo donde la gente se entrega y apoya mucho a las jugadoras", dijo Pavluchenkova, quien estará la próxima semana en Indian Wells, en Estados Unidos.

Por su victoria en el Abierto de Monterrey, la rusa se llevó un premio de 37.000 dólares, mientras su rival recibió un cheque por 19.000.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Daniela Hantuchova 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 to win the Monterrey Open title.

Pavlyuchenkova came back from a set down to crush Hantuchova in the final. She played her second match of the day after earlier beating Anastasia Sevastova 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in a semifinal that was rained out Saturday.

“After my first match, it was hard to concentrate again. I wasn’t feeling the ball well and Daniela played a very solid first set,” Pavlyuchenkova said. “I tried to understand her game and I started fighting. When you win a final it’s hard to understand – you feel a lot of emotions. In a few days I will get it.”

“I played a solid first set with few mistakes, but then she started to play very aggressively with almost no mistakes,” Hantuchova said afterwards. “She really played unbelievable. I was always under pressure. Maybe after the first set she thought she had nothing to lose, then began playing better.”
