Del Potro no quiere saber nada del tennis por un tiempo- Delpo takes a rest

Tras perder la final del Masters, el argentino aseguró que ahora es tiempo de descansar, cerca de la familia y lejos de la raqueta. También elogió al campeón, Nikolay Davydenko

Aún sin el título de Maestro en sus manos, tras su caída ante el ruso Nikolay Davydenko, el tandilense Juan Martín Del Potro aseguró que recordará "este momento por mucho tiempo".

"Nikolay jugó muy bien y gracias a todos por el apoyo y la fuerza que dieron esta semana. Me ayudaron mucho para luchar hasta el final y este momento lo voy a recordar por mucho tiempo y lo voy a guardar para siempre", declaró un emocionado Del Potro, luego de recibir la plaqueta del segundo puesto.

Del Potro reconoció el "gran día" que tuvo Davydenko y el desgaste que le produjo el enorme partido que le ganó por semifinales al sueco Robin Soderling.

"El jugó en un buen nivel y tuvo un gran día. Yo di lo mejor de mí, pero no pude ganar porque él jugó mejor. Ayer hice un gran esfuerzo y hoy intenté hacerlo, pero no alcanzó", agregó el tandilense.

Luego, más tranquilo en conferencia de prensa, continuó con los elogios al campeón: "Les ganó a Federer, a Nadal... y creo que perdí con un buen campeón. Es muy fuerte, nunca le gané en cancha dura o bajo techo. Es muy rápido, juega como en una 'play station'. Corre y corre y es difícil lograr winners con él. Nadie sabe cómo ganarle".

Acerca de cómo terminó la temporada, afirmó: "Muy contento por cómo terminé; volví a sentirme bien dentro de una cancha y me motiva para arrancar bien el año que viene". "Pero ya está, ha terminado y me gustaría no hablar de tenis por algún tiempo", agregó.

"Ahora tengo que ir a Rosario a jugar y cuando termine ahí poner la raqueta bien lejos de mi vista y después disfrutar y hacer cosas que no hago durante todo el año, estar en mi casa y levantarme a la hora que sea, comer lo que quiera...", reconoció.

"Tengo muchísimas cosas que mejorar, mi servicio, mi derecha, mi revés, para poder estar en una mejor posición. Hay jugadores buenísimos luchando conmigo como fue Murray, Djokovic, Federer, Verdasco. Sé lo que tengo que trabajar", señaló.

DEL POTRO TRIBUTE

Whatever the 21-year-old unleashed on Sunday, Davydenko simply chased it down and came up with something better, tormenting Del Potro with baseline-hugging ground strokes and clever angles that kept his opponent guessing throughout.

"He's very fast, he plays like a Playstation game, he runs everywhere and it's very difficult to make winners. He's a great champion," Del Potro, who was upset by a foot fault when dropping serve at 2-1 in the first set, told reporters.

Davydenko's challenge had begun with defeat last Monday against Serbia's Novak Djokovic in his opening round-robin match.

But he recovered from that loss with inspired victories over Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and finally Del Potro, who between them won all the grand slam prizes on offer this year.

With each match he seemed to get better and he scaled the heights on Saturday when he beat Federer for the time in 13 attempts, a victory that fueled his belief against Del Potro.

A weak Del Potro backhand gave Davydenko the decisive service break at 1-2 in the first set and only once did the Argentine threaten to make a real scrap of it, when he created some chances to break the Davydenko serve midway through the second set only for his opponent to snuff out the danger.
