Melbourne (Australia), 27 ene (EFE).- El emergente tenis chino colocó a la segunda de sus representantes, Na Li, en las semifinales del Abierto de Australia tras vencer hoy a la estadounidense Venus Williams por 2-6, 7-6 (4) y 7-5 por segunda vez en su carrera, un resultado que la coloca por primera entre las diez mejores del mundo.
Tal y como lo consiguió su compatriota Jie Zheng el martes ante la rusa Maria Kirilenko, Na Li alcanzó también la ronda de semifinales y China marcó un récord al colocar por primera vez en su historia a dos de sus representantes en esta ronda de un Grand Slam.
Zheng se enfrentará por un puesto en la final ante la belga Justine Henin, ex número uno mundial, mientras que Li lo hará con la ganadora del encuentro entre la bielorrusa Victoria Azarenka y la estadounidense Serena Williams, defensora del título.
El partido de hoy fue un carrusel de errores no forzados, con un total de 110 entre las dos jugadoras. Hubo 17 roturas de servicio, ocho ganadas por Venus y una más por Li.
Venus tuvo su oportunidad cuando sirvió para ganar el partido en el segundo parcial, con 5-4, pero la china supo romperle el servicio para dar lugar a un desempate en el que dominó con holgura.
En el tercer parcial ambas jugadoras cedieron su saque hasta un total de seis veces entre las dos.
No obstante, la jugadora china fue capaz de hacerse con el saque de Williams en el undécimo juego para decidir a continuación y sellar su victoria en dos horas y 47 minutos.
Con esta victoria Na Li supera su registro en un torneo de Grand Slam ya que hasta ahora su techo estaba en los cuartos de final de Wimbledon en 2006 y en el Abierto de EEUU 2009.

MELBOURNE, Australia — Venus Williams was one service game away from holding up her end of a projected sisters semifinal at the Australian Open, until she stumbled in a flurry of errors and lost to No. 16 Li Na.
Li reached the Grand Slam semifinals for the first time with the 2-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 quarterfinal win on Wednesday, giving China two players into the last four of a tennis major for the first time.
“Best day of my whole life,” Li said, grinning widely.
Zheng Jie will play a semifinal against former No. 1-ranked Justine Henin in the other half of the draw.
“Good for both players. Also good for China’s tennis,” Li said. “Also good for the fans. Thank you.”
It was another disappointing exit for the 29-year-old Williams, who bristled at the suggestion that her only chance at another major was at Wimbledon.
The experts expected Venus Williams to beat Li and set up a semifinal with her sister and defending champion Serena Williams, who was playing her quarterfinal in the following match on Rod Laver Arena.And when the seven-time major winner was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second, it seemed a formality.
But Li rallied, breaking Williams in that game and eventually forcing and then dominating a tiebreaker against the former No. 1-ranked American.
Williams held to open the third set, which then featured six consecutive service breaks until Li held to even it at 4-4. She broke Williams and then had her own chance to serve for the match, but didn’t win a point in that game.
Williams returned the favor, losing four straight points on her serve to give Li a second chance to serve it out from 6-5.
Li, who had never gone beyond the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam, needed three match points, eventually converting it with consecutive forehand winners down the line.
The match featured a combined 110 unforced errors, Williams committing 53 of those. Williams had 11 double-faults — five in the third set — against Li’s five in the match.
The pair hit 27 winners each.
